Sea Scout teenage sailors at Swiftsure 2023 International Yacht Race

VICTORIA – The Sea Scouts set off today for the Swiftsure Cape Flattery Race.

It departs from Clover Point in Victoria, rounds the mark at Neah Bay to port and returns to cross the finish line through Victoria Harbor – a journey length of 101.9 nautical miles.

The mixed-gender teenage crew will cruise independently through the waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca with adult supervision on board.

The nature of the course and the notoriously unpredictable winds and currents provide a demanding test of seamanship, organizers said.

Participation in the 2023 Swiftsure International Yacht Race reflects the continued cumulative efforts of the 19 Port Angeles Sea Scouts who have worked together over the past three years while working through issues and constraints faced during the pandemic to qualify, the leaders said. organizers.
