Protests will hit UK universities tomorrow

NUS supports the day of protest and called on UCEA to settle the dispute.

The UCU already met with the UCEA last week to try to end the UK-wide university marking boycott and resolve the ongoing dispute over pay and working conditions. Unfortunately, the UCEA has refused to table an improved wage offer or provide redress to members who have been hit with punitive wage deductions.

UCU General Secretary Jo Grady said: “University staff and students will be out in force tomorrow demanding that UCEA settle the dispute and end its national degree scandal.”

“We cannot and will not allow employers to filibuster to such an extent that students miss out on their degrees and punitive payroll deductions push staff further into debt.

“UCEA now has a choice, listen to modest demands from staff and students, and work with us to end the grading boycott, or set the stage for even more disruption in the months ahead and into the next academic year.”

NUS Vice President for Higher Education Chloe Field said: “Tomorrow, as always, we stand with UCU and join member student unions in calling on UCEA to resolve the dispute.”

“Students know university bosses are solely responsible for disrupting their degrees, they have shown overwhelming support for university staff throughout this dispute and will do so again tomorrow.”
