NEW DELHI :
New Delhi: As part of India’s strategy to prepare for any possibility of a third wave of the coronavirus pandemic, pressure modulated adsorption (PSA) medical oxygen production plants are being set up across the country. Steel, Oil and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said on Sunday.
State-owned oil and gas companies set up PSA medical oxygen production plants at 100 sites, to help meet the oxygen needs of hospitals in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Goa, Kerala, Maharashtra , Gujarat, Rajasthan, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh. and Delhi.
As part of the plan, Pradhan on Sunday inaugurated a medical oxygen production plant and PSA-based supercharging unit at Maharaj Agrasen Hospital in Punjabi Bagh, New Delhi. “
About 1,500 PSA oxygen plants are being set up thanks to the contribution of the PM-CARES Fund and public companies, among others.
The plant was set up by Indraprastha Gas Ltd, the country’s largest CNG distribution company as part of its CSR program. This plant can also be used to fill oxygen cylinders. Six more PSA-based factories are being installed in Delhi by various oil and gas PSUs, ”IGL said in a statement.
It comes against the backdrop of an acute crisis in the availability of oxygen in the country amid an increase in covid infections, which has seen hospital beds and drugs run out. The situation was alarming with the reported deaths of critically ill Covid-19 patients due to lack of oxygen.
The plant is unique in nature and has a dual cylinder filling facility as well as hospital manifold supply. The capacity of this plant is 60 NM3 / Hr and can give oxygen with a purity of up to 96%. This plant is the only one of its kind in the entire Delhi NCR area, which can also fill 12 Jumbo Type-D medical oxygen cylinders per hour using a 150 bar oxygen compressor. In addition to providing medical oxygen support to beds connected to the hospital manifold by pipes, this plant can also provide oxygen in empty oxygen cylinders, ”the statement said.
In addition, Indian state-run steel, oil and gas companies supply oxygen and purchase cryogenic containers for transporting liquid medical oxygen. State oil and gas companies are also setting up 10,500 beds for the treatment of patients with Covid-19 near their factories and refineries.
Steel companies have played a major role in supplying LMO (Liquid Medical Oxygen) across the country by diverting their oxygen production capacity to LMO production and reducing steel production, ”Pradhan said according to the report. communicated.
