NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WKRN) – The American Soccer Federation has selected Nashville to host the USA-Canada World Cup qualifier.

The match will be USMNT’s first home game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

Nissan Stadium will host the game, which will be played on September 5 at 7:00 p.m. CT. Ticket information will be available shortly.

Nashville Mayor John Cooper made the official announcement on the evening of July 4 during the Let freedom sing! City of Music, July 4th event in downtown Nashville.

USMNT Head Coach Gregg Berhalter attributed the growing football culture and top notch facilities in Nashville as the main reasons Nashville was selected to host a game.

We know that one of the things that is critical to our success in World Cup qualifying is having a strong home crowd and winning our home games, said Berhalter. When I think of the stadium, the pitch and a vibrant crowd, there’s no better place to kick off our World Cup qualifying series at home than in Nashville. It’s a vibrant city and we can’t wait to play there.

Overall, the USMNT compiled a 4-2-1 record while playing in Nashville.
