The COVID-19 outbreak in New South Wales appears to be drawing closer to Queensland, with confirmation that two positive cases have spent the night in a busy truck stop just south of the Gold Coast.

The couple spent the night at the northbound Ampol petrol station truck stop in Chinderah near the Murwillumbah exit on Tuesday.

NSW Health revealed the worrying location overnight, ordering anyone there from 8:30 p.m. Tuesday to 7:30 a.m. Wednesday to get tested immediately and self-isolate for 14 days

“Anyone who has attended this venue is a close contact and should immediately get tested and self-isolate for 14 days regardless of the result, and call 1800 943 553 unless they have already been contacted by NSW Health, ”they said.

Positive cases used the truck driver’s washrooms, showers and lounge, as well as the food court.

The direction of the pair’s travel after the stop has yet to be revealed, so it’s unclear at this point whether or not they crossed the Queensland border.

The sunny state border remains open to regional NSW, however, the state’s top doctor urges Queenslanders to avoid traveling south.

It comes after the AFL revealed that several players and staff from up to eight clubs are stranded in Queensland after visiting a number of COVID-19 exposure sites in Victoria.
