This summer, MPs enjoyed free tickets worth more than € 100,000 from gambling, beverage and sports businesses as they took advantage of the governments ’Covid pilot program for major events.

Government ministers Ben Wallace and Brandon Lewis, as well as opposition leader Keir Starmer, were among those who benefited from the free tickets announced in July, and more than 35 MPs approved the hospitality research project.

Because major events have been banned for more than a year because of Covid rules, MPs seemed eager to use the pilot program when they took free tickets Euro 2020 football, motorsports in Silverstone and Goodwood, tennis in Wimbledon, cricket in the Lords, Rugby League Challenge Cup and Brit awards.

Many fans who had long-term tickets to Euro 2020 matches inherited tickets due to Covid restrictions, but 19 MPs managed to participate for free for the benefit of gambling companies and the Premier League.

Wallace, the Secretary of Defense, was one of ten MPs who took advantage of 3,547 hospitality from Entain, the owner of Ladbrokes in Gibraltar, to watch England play in euros at Wembley.

Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary Jonathan Reynolds took the same 3547 package from Entain, while Starmers Parliamentary Private Secretary Sharon Hodgson accepted the same level of hospitality from the Betting and Gaming Council. Foreign Secretary Nigel Adams also took free tickets from the betting organization worth $ 1,999.14 to take part in the English football match.

The gambling industry is hosting MPs at a time when the government is conducting a comprehensive review Gamble The law will consider additional restrictions on advertising. Matt Zarb-Cousin, director of the Clean Up Gambling campaign, said the industry seemed to have used the international tournament as an excuse to beat MPs and dine before the review. The campaign group also warned that legislators should consider twice to accept hospitality from a sector that gets most of its profits from people who suffer damage.

Starmers Euro 2020 tickets were awarded to the Premier League for 1,628 and Rugby Football League for 618. The Premier League also presented Shadow Health Secretary Jonathan Ashworth tickets for the 1040 semi-finals.

Other old MPs announcing free tickets include Northern Ireland Secretary Lewis, who spent the day at the 954 England and Pakistan Cricket Lords donated by Bestway Holdings, and a ticket to the 1264 British GP from Motorsports UK. Mark Spencer, Archbishop, also approved a ticket to the Silverstone UK GP, valued at 1516.80. Heineken, a beverage company, gave hospitality to several other MPs for the euro.

MPs were among the thousands of people who were able to take advantage of government scientific experiments at major events, and each set different criteria for selecting participants.

When the plans were launched, the board announced that it would work with event organizers to find suitable participants from its regular clientele. In the experiments, participants in the events were expected to perform rapid side flow tests prior to their participation, whereas PCR testing of the gold standard before and after the event was a voluntary request from the participants.

Not all of the results of the trials have yet been published, but the early findings of Phase 1 did not indicate significant outbreaks from large-scale public events at the beginning of the trial. However, the government warned that it was difficult to draw conclusions about reopening due to the low Community consignment, the poor recovery rate of PCR tests and the lack of scale, scope and research plans for pilots to provide direct evidence based on consignment data.

The results for Euro 2020 and other matches have not yet been published.

Overall, the betting and gambling companies that took MPs to Wembley’s Euro 2020 match were the biggest providers of free tickets. There are about 10 Tory and Labor MPs previously announced tickets from gambling companies to English football matches, but the MPs ’latest register of interests showed that nine others took on hospitality at Wembley matches. Five MPs received free tickets to tennis at Wimbledon, five to motorsport events and four enjoyed hospitality on golf.

A spokesman for the betting and gaming council of the industry body said: Regulated betting and gaming industries support many sports, including football, and this funding has proven vital during a pandemic.

This includes € 40 million for the English Football League and its clubs, as well as grassroots football funding. In addition, we participate in 350-meter horse races and millions of other rugby leagues, darts and snooker.

All hospitality is in accordance with the rules and fully declared.

MPs have been contacted to comment. A Lewis spokesman said: All reported hospitality is properly reported in the usual way.
