A halt to garden waste collections in Plymouth is expected for the remainder of the month due to staff shortages.
Plymouth City Council has warned that there are not enough staff to handle all yard waste routes around the city due to Covid-related absences.
So far this week, only 60% of the routes have been completed.

Rather than suspending the service entirely, the council said it still wanted to try to function as best it could, adding that it had “done everything possible to try to alleviate staff shortages by bringing in staff. agency staff “.
Plymouth City Council added, “Please continue to present your bin on collection day as we do our best to run as many routes as possible each day, even with exhausted crews.
“If we don’t come on the day you expect or during this collection week, you will either have to wait for your next collection date or use one of our household waste recycling centers. Please do not report a missed bin as we will not be able to schedule a collection.
“We’re sorry, we know it’s frustrating, but we must prioritize the collection of brown and green bins over yard waste.
“Unfortunately, the garbage crews are not the only ones affected. Grass cutting and street cleaning crews are also on the decline and while we will always try to manage all of our services to the best of our ability, it is likely that over the next few weeks or so things will not go as quickly as we would like.
“Know one thing, however, all available teams are working incredibly hard to do their best under very difficult circumstances.
“Please indulge us, we hope to regain our strength very soon.”
