Former United States President Donald Trump has said that no one has done more for Christianity than he did when he was in the White House. In the latest anonymous statement after he hinted at a potential presidential challenge in 2024, Trump said he did the most for religion in a bid to emphasize what he did for Evangelical Christians and how he always prioritize their interests. Notably, Evangelical Christians have been a critical basis of support for the former U.S. President since announcing his presidency in 2016.
To further establish his position as a staunch supporter of his religion, in a telephone interview with The Victoria Channel for Flashpoint, the former President of the United States was given the opportunity to share a message with his religious supporters. When the host asked the 75-year-old about why these supporters should stay in touch with him? Trump said nothing has done more for Christianity than him.
Nothing has done more for Christianity or for evangelicals or for religion itself than I have, “Trump said. He also referred to the removal of the Johnson Amendment which, according to him, is a very bad thing.
The Johnson Amendment is a provision in the U.S. tax code that prohibits nonprofit organizations from endorsing or opposing political candidates. If they do, organizations risk losing their tax -free status. Back in 2017, Donald Trump signed an executive order to lighten regulations and insisted it was limiting the church’s free speech rights. Business Insider reported that some experts think the move is almost symbolic.
Democrats have done destructive things: Trump
Moreover, in an interview with FlashPoint, the former President of the United States claimed that his successor Joe Biden and the Democrats had done destructive things to religion. His remarks about Democrats came after Trump cited Mexico City’s policy that restricts federal funding for foreign Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) that make referrals for abortion or discuss the matter as an option. This policy was reportedly first introduced in 1973 with Democrats removing it and rival Republicans, who reinstated it.
“I said Biden was going to be bad, he’s going to be worse than anyone else thought. You’re talking about abortion, you’re talking about all sorts of topics,” Trump said.
He added, “He was serious on these subjects, and he lied. And just as they rigged the election, they tarnished the election, just as it happened they also deceived what they really thought about organized religion and religion and openly of Christianity. “
