Only Monday night football stays on 2021 NFL Week 8 Schedule, so most fantasy football managers are now turning their gaze to week 9 to try to get the benefit of their own fantasy league.
It is important not to overreact to individual rows of statistics. For example, some players made two touchdowns this week but are unlikely to do so again this season, while other players saw most of their team’s starting passes on the field but did not make it to the finish line.
Remember: chase operation, not box points.
Here are some early abandonment destinations as well as the biggest ups and downs NFL Week 8. For a more detailed view of 32 teams per week, including snap numbers, see Complete the week 8 fantasy football summary.

Waiver of Wire Targets
QB Taysom Hill, New Orleans Saints: James Winston suffered a knee injury that took him out of Sunday’s match, and preliminary signs point to a serious injury. Trevor Siemian initially took the starter, but Taysom Hill would likely retain their start-up after returning to 100 percent.
Hill is currently missing games due to the concussion, but is expected to return next week. He was a steady fantasy start at Saints ’QB1 last year due to his busy production, and he made a weekly ranking in the top 11 in all four starts. His ability to run would make him a borderline player again.
RB Carlos Hyde, Jacksonville Jaguars: James Robinson left Sunday’s game due to an ankle injury after only eight starting passes and did not return. Hyde took most of the abductions during his absence, which didn’t lead to much fantasy value, but the game’s script didn’t do him any favors. If Robinson misses, Hyde will be the biggest abandonment goal of the week. If he’s away for a year and you’re on a team that needs a coach, he could be someone who consumes a considerable amount of FAB.

WR Brandon AIyuk, San Francisco 49ers: The second-year recipient has been one of the biggest disappointments of the fantasy football season, but he’s heading in the right direction. His playing time has slowly increased, and this is the second time this season when his role was similar to last season. He recorded season records for goals (7) and Reception yards (45) and is reachable in more than half of the ESPN leagues. He has more advantages than other players who could be on your bench.
AT Dan Arnold, Jacksonville Jaguars: Arnold has been the subject of a resignation since he arrived in Jacksonville. He has been a clear receiving tight-headed option for a team that needs a lot of throws and who likes throwing to a tight end. The former Panther led the team in the yards received by 68 after receiving the team’s top eight goals. He could be the tight end of the top10 fantasy for the season if the Jaguars get into the red zone more often.
The biggest ones are rising
RB Michael Carter, New York Jets: The rookie runner took Jets ’early down runner-up spot in Week 2 and became the third bill leader yesterday. Carter put together the best game of his career with an increased role.
The rookie rose 77 yards on the ground, 95 yards in the air, and he made a touchdown. It wouldn’t be surprising if he finished in the top 10 runners in snaps in the second half of the season. The Jets attack may not be as effective as on Sunday in the future, but the volume alone is enough to place him in the opening lineups.
That is worth noting Mike White likes to throw on his running backs, which was also true last week. Once Zach Wilson returning to the lineup, Carter sees fewer items.
RB Elijah Mitchell, San Francisco 49ers: Mitchell remains the 49ers ’clear early defender. The beginner got 137 yards with 18 moves and made a touchdown. He played 36/39 of the starting pass on the first or second landing outside of the two-minute practice. He was constantly running the ball while on the field and took advantage of a favorable match. He was only in the opening lineups in half of the ESPN leagues, but he is likely to be in more than one opening lineup in the future.
WR Jarvis Landry, Cleveland Browns: Landry returned to the Browns in week 7 with limited capacity after being out of operation for the previous four weeks. He returned to his old self this week, played most of the snaps and saw over 30% of the goals. He dropped two passes, which is probably not a constant problem. He has a floor high enough that he should be in fantasy lineups every week.

The biggest crashes
RB Kenneth Gainwell, Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles didn’t Miles Sanders, but instead of Gainwell rising on the depth chart, he moved down.
Boston Scott and Jordan Howard share most of the workload. Gainwell played just six of a possible 51 starting passes, and he played all 14 starting passes when the Eagles backed up in the fourth quarter. He should still see a few snaps each week, but it seems unlikely that he will play a big role this season.
RB David Johnson, Houston Texans: Houston made the deal Mark Ingram II To the Saints earlier this week, which seemed to lead to some clarity on Houston’s position.
Phillip Lindsay and David Johnson saw a slight increase in starting feeds in the early declines, but Scottie Phillips also included. And the playing time Phillips got in the early bills, he lost on the third bill. Rex Burkhead took more snaps on the third landing and two-minute drills, so this was left in a four-man circuit where no one can be trusted. In the fourth quarter, Houston was tied to Burkhead and Phillips, making snap volumes skewed in their favor.
AT Noah fans, Denver Broncos: Jerry Jeudy was the big name in Denver that returned to the Broncos this week, but Albert Okwuegbunam also brought back into the assembly. Fant had seen 90% or more of the offensive passes with Okwuegbunam away, but this week was the lowest of his season in terms of percentage of offensive starts. There was more receptive production at the reserve head, which could lead to a division of roles in the future. If this continues, Fant would be just the limit for starting a fantasy tight head.
