Utah’s Donovan Mitchell suffered a right ankle injury at the end of the first half against Sacramento on Tuesday.

Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell didn’t play against the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday night due to a right ankle sprain.

Mitchell injured his ankle in the final seconds of Tuesday’s first half against the Sacramento Kings. He returned in the second half and set a season record of 36 points a Profit 119-113.

Mitchell argued that the injury was not serious or related to a serious ankle sprain last season that got him between the last 16 games of the regular season and the opening game of the playoffs.

But the Jazz took no risks and decided to sit in Mitchell’s Atlanta as they embarked on a three-match trip.

“We’re conservative and hard-working about these types of things,” Coach Quin Snyder said. “I think Donovan is in a mentally good place, and we make sure he’s in a physically good place and he comes back.”

Joe Ingles started on Mitchell’s farm on guard.
