Henry County Government paid tribute to Joeann Compton for her retirement this morning. Compton retired this year from the Henry County Parks and Recreation Department after 35 years of service as a tennis instructor, coach and mentor for countless children and adults.
Compton played a major role in the development of tennis in Henry County as a member of the Henry County Tennis Association, resulting in the construction of the first six courts at Richard Craig Tennis Park in McDonough.

<p>Tennis players throughout Henry County are affectionately known as “Momma Jo”. He served faithfully despite difficulties, obstacles, and personal health struggles. He devoted his time with Henry County to promoting tennis programs in the community. He opened the door to people of all ages, backgrounds, genders and ethnicities by founding the Jac Roth Free Tennis Clinic in 2002 in honor of Jac Roth, the founder of the free tennis clinic and an avid tennis player.</p>
<p>Although he is retired, he expects to continue his work at the annual Jac Roth Free Tennis Clinic.</p>
