Spain and Poland won their second consecutive match in the ATP Cup to stay perfect

SYDNEY – Spain and Poland remained perfect in the ATP Cup and secured a 2-0 lead in their matches in a team race on Monday.

Roberto Bautista Agut won the match for Spain by hitting Casper Ruud After Norway 6-4, 7-6 (4) Pablo Carreno Busta won Viktor Durasovic 6-3, 6-3.

Bautista Agut improved to 9-2 at the team event in the doubles.

“Casper is playing incredible tennis, (he did) an incredible performance last year, and today I played very well,” Bautista Agut said in his field interview. “I came back very well, made very few non-compelling mistakes and played aggressively.”

Kamil Majchrzak gave Poland an early lead from Georgia with a 6-1, 6-1 victory Alexander Bakshi before Hubert Hurkacz won the doubles victory 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-1 Aleksandre Metreveli.

“He [Metreveli] played well in the first set and things didn’t go the way I wanted. But I improved with each batch and I’m happy to win, ”Hurkacz said.

Poland could reserve a place in the semi-finals if it defeats Argentina on Wednesday in its next group match.

Majchrzak took just 53 minutes to defeat Baksh.

“I tried to move [Bakshi] and I think that was the key to the match, “said Majchrzak, who is coached by former world seventh-placed Joakim Nystrom.

“He brings me a lot of self-confidence and a lot of serenity in my tennis so I can feel better,” Majchrzak said of Nystrom on the ATP Tour website. “We’re working (developing the whole field game), but in a way that doesn’t interrupt my basic game. We take it from practice to matches, but it takes time.”

Greece will face Argentina and Serbia will face Chile in night matches on Monday.

The four block winners in the 16-team tournament will advance to the semifinals on Friday and Saturday, and the winners will face off in the final on Sunday.
