Wisconsin Badgers Football: Joe Rudolph headed to Virginia Tech

Although it has not been officially announced Virginia Tech at the time I write this sentence, Joe Rudolph, a former Wisconsin Badgers offensive line coach / racing game coordinator / assistant head coach / offensive coordinator, is leaving Madison and joining Brent Pry’s first staff in Blacksburg.

Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel also reports on the news Colten Bartholomew from the Wisconsin State Journal.

Rudolph, a Wisconsin alumnus, has coached with Paul Chryst since 2008, when he was a strict head coach at UW. He followed Chryst to Pitti and then returned to Madison when Chryst took over as head coach at UW in 2015. Rudolph was a first-class recruiting member for head coach Barry Alvarez in Wisconsin. He won the Big Ten title at Madison as both a player and a coach.

Rudolph, from Pennsylvania, told Potrykus about it move closer to home was a great benefit to Va. Tech work.

While many people, myself included, are calling for a change in the offensive coaching staff, it’s worth noting that Rudolph is, on the whole, a beloved coach of his players and co-workers and has only had a lot to say about Wisconsin and Chryst on the way out the door.

We’ll post a post later this week looking at which direction Chryst could choose now that he has to work on his staff.

Virginia Tech has officially notified Joe Rudolph joins their coaching duties. He serves as Brent Pry’s assistant head coach / game coordinator / offensive line coach.
