A Colombian real estate platform now allows users to buy properties with Bitcoin. The platform, called La Haus, is promoting bitcoin payments for a new real estate project in Santa Marta, called Natura City. This is an extension of the platform, which has already implemented such a service in Mexico.
The Haus will allow Colombian citizens to buy real estate with Bitcoin
A Colombian real estate platform, La Haus, allows bitcoin investors to buy real estate directly with the cryptocurrency. To launch this initiative in the country, the platform presents a new housing project in an exclusive area of Santa Marta, called Natura City. The location is less than 200 meters from Colombian beaches and construction of the resort is expected to be completed by 2025.
The Haus has partnered with the OpenNode payment processor for this task and allows users to pay for properties through Lightning Network or on-chain, depending on the buyer’s needs. The buyer can pay 100% in bitcoin, or just pay part of the total in BTC, paying the remaining amount through traditional channels. Each apartment is valued at around 2.19 bitcoins or 400 million Colombian pesos.
Expansion of Mexico
This is not the first time that La Haus has been involved in cryptocurrency payments in the industry. Earlier this year, in November, the company began accepting bitcoin payments for a subdivision in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. At the time, La Haus had indicated its intention to extend this payment option to all the properties listed on its platform.
Regarding the evolution of bitcoin payment acceptance, La Haus President and Co-Founder Rodrigo Sanchez-Rios said:
We believe that Bitcoin will be the reserve currency of the future. Basically, we are a technology company. It is natural for us to be pioneers with this technology.
However, the issue of bitcoin as a means of payment for real estate companies can be complex due to regulations. In the United States, bitcoin can be considered property, so any income or loss resulting from the sale of the asset is subject to capital gains tax. Crypto real estate purchases continue, however, such as the purchase of an apartment in Venezuela with a stablecoin attachment.
