The Kansas City Chiefs epic 42-36 overtime win Buffalo Bills may just be the best football game I’ve ever seen. The match was a roller coaster of emotions for both teams. As I sit writing this, the game has been over for a little over an hour and I still have trouble concentrating. I guess I’m not the only Chiefs fan (or Bills fan) to have sleep disorders after the game.
The Chiefs have played many exciting games throughout their history. Only in the last four seasons Patrick Mahomes as a quarterback, they have played numerous fantastic games. A 54-51 loss to the Los Angeles Rams from 2018 comes to mind, but the stakes for that game weren’t that high and you could argue that the defenses played much worse in that game. The Chiefs Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers was more important, of course, but this game didn’t go as well as this game, and there really wasn’t a quarterback like this.
This weekend alone, three other playoff games were played that ended in the very last seconds, but none of them had as many epic performances as this game. I’m sure we could make a list of games as impressive as the games on other teams, but as I sit here as I write this, I simply can’t think of another game that would be similar to this game. In fact, I have six specific reasons why I think this could have been the best game I’ve ever seen.
Let’s start with what was at stake.
