PARIS (AP) – The studio – the hand workshop – took the center stage of Dior on Monday for an enhanced show on the first day of Paris couture week, which aims to enhance the work of tailors behind the scenes of the home.

Stars flocked to Musee Rodin’s place, including actress Rosamund Pike and “The Crown” star Claire Foy, who posed for the camera, exclaiming: “This is beautiful. I am impressed.”

Another VIP in attendance, model and actress Cara Delevingne, was criticized for not wearing a mask.

Here are some highlights from Monday’s spring-summer 2022 couture collection:

DIOR CELEBRATES HIS CRAFTS

Designer Maria Grazia Chiuri said she wanted to demonstrate how the craft of dozens of “master petites” tailors, many of whom have worked in the studio for decades, was as important as art or fashion itself.

The dense white beaded tapestry embroidery on a structured ecru wool twill coat is an example. Here, more than just embellishing the garment, they actually create the silhouette, which is weighty and chic. Arts and crafts, Chiuri said through her clothes, were one and the same.

The high-waisted gray crepe skirt looks almost alive thanks to the abundance of long, rippled and swaying embroidery on the fairy-like model.
