England have arrived Down Under and they’ve made a statement, belting 6-208 against an experimental Australian side in Perth.

It has left Australia needing more than 10 runs per over, with the home side losing Cameron Green (1) again early.

Yet, Australian greats Mark Waugh, Adam Gilchrist and Brad Haddin remain baffled why Captain Aaron Finch is batting at number four while Green, not even in Australia’s World Cup squad, is opening.

I just don’t get it, Waugh said on Fox Cricket.

David Warner, meanwhile, has Australia still in the match with the left-hander continuing his fine form, with the home side 2-89 after nine overs.

Sent in by Finch, opening duo Jos Buttler and Alex Hales put on a first-wicket stand of 132, before the former fell for 68 as Nathan Ellis broke through.

Ellis was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-20 from four overs including 2-1 in his fourth over bowled in the penultimate one of the innings.

Buttlers departure slowed the proceedings, with Ben Stokes (9 off 9) struggling to get going before Hales eventually holed out for 84 after failing to put away a Kane Richardson slower ball.

While Australia managed to slow England’s run-rate down in the final third of their innings, some late hitting from Chris Woakes (13 off 5) saw the visitors take some momentum into the field. Haddin described the early Onslaught from England as brutal.

Opening bowler Cameron Green (0-38 off 3) felt the brunt of Buttler early, as the world class opener stood still and played straight.

Later, leg-spinner Mitch Swespon (0-31 off 2) was hit for six from his opening two deliveries by the wicket-keeper batter.

Marcus Stoinis was greeted with not an ounce of respect in his first over back from injury, as the batting all-rounder was smashed for 21 from his opening over. Stoinis managed to pull it back a bit, taking 1-36 from his three overs.

The Aussies left their first-choice Bowling line-up back on the east coast, after a short turnaround between the series win over the West Indies in Queensland, and Sundays match at Optus Stadium, before they return to the east coast for games in Canberra is Wednesday and Friday.

Smith, meanwhile, faces an uphill battle to regain his spot in Australia’s XI ahead of their World Cup opener. The right-hander has struggled to get moving in the T20 format and with Tim David starring since making his debut for Australia last month, the former Captain looks like he will miss selection. Smith made 17 from 16 on Friday against the West Indies as he watched from the other end as David smashed 42 from 20.

Former Australian opener and selector Mark Waugh said Smith would be upset and unhappy but had to accept the game was a team game.

On the England side, they’ve made five changes to last years World Cup Squad, most notably losing the injured Jonny Bairstow. Buttler Captains while Ben Stokes Returns after missing the previous World Cup through mental health issues.

England has only beaten Australia in a T20I in Australia once in eight attempts – back in 2011.
