Two Salve Regina ice hockey players will skate on Team USA at the FISU World University Games – SALVEtoday

Salve Reginamen hockey forwards Johnny Mulera ’24 and Mitch Walinski ’23 have been selected to play 2023 International University Sports Federation (FISU) World University Games for the US men’s team. Games begin on Wednesday, January 11.

The FISU World University Games is the world’s largest winter multisport event. The 11-day international festival and competition combines high-level sports with educational and cultural events, all held in Lake Placid, New York and nearby cities.

“We are very proud as a program and as a university that these two tremendous student-athletes have been selected to represent the United States in the 2023 games,” said Ten Clans, Salve Regina head men’s hockey coach. “Every time you get to pull on the shirt of your country and represent your country, it’s a great honor. They have worked very hard for this opportunity, and they will cherish it for the rest of their lives. We can’t wait to see them compete on this stage with some of the best players in the world. This is a special day for our program and Salve Regina.”

For the first time at the FISU World University Games, the USA men’s hockey roster is made up of D-III ranks from across the country. The tournament’s official roster consists of 23 players from East and West, as well as multiple conferences.

The USA men’s team will play in the six-team Pool B series, which begins on Wednesday, January 11 at Cheel Rink on the campus of Clarkson University. The top two teams from the round robin portion of the tournament will advance to the medal round on Saturday, January 21 and Sunday, January 22.

The US men’s team round robin schedule includes the following games:

• January 11 at 8pm – Great Britain vs. USA
• Jan. 14 at 8 p.m.—USA vs. Korea
• January 15, 4:30 p.m. – Slovakia vs. USA
• Jan. 18, 9:30 a.m. – USA vs. Kazakhstan
• Jan. 19, 9:30 a.m. – USA vs. Hungary
