The last general assembly of the municipal corporation, at the end of the quinquennium, was held here today.

Advisors held office employees accountable for failures in various projects. The House is due to dissolve on January 22, after which the job of the MC will fall into the hands of the commissioner as administrator.

Councilors raised several concerns during the meeting.

Besides City Mayor Sanjeev Sharma, Councilors Jarnail Singh, Rajinder Kumar Raju, Vijay Rani, Krishan Chand Budhu, Naresh Duggal, Harvinder Shukla, Harvinder Singh Nippi and others attended the meeting. A total of 45 councilors attended the meeting. While Harvinder Singh Nippi and Harvinder Shukla congratulated the congregation on completing their five-year terms, Shukla also demanded that the House write to the state government to appoint two congressional advisers to serve on the committee formed for ward demarcation. .

Vijay Rani expressed concern about the delay of about eight months in the already cleared road works in her neighborhood and the fact that residents continue to face problems with the sanctioning of building construction plans. Councilors complained that the MC had failed to provide lampposts and benches in city parks.

Councilor Anil Modgil listed various works and said that office staff failed to help complete various projects. He said the MC had failed to buy an animal catcher in his five years in office, implement the street vendor policy, tackle the threat of stray dogs and complete the work construction of a new meeting room.

Mayor Sanjeev Sharma said councilors should submit their concerns in writing, which will then be sent to the state government to seek action against the employees responsible for the breaches.

The commissioner and the JCs miss the meeting

For the second time in a row, none of the three senior officers of the Society’s administration — the commissioner and the two co-commissioners — attended the House meeting. Councilors said the three had been disrespectful in the House and decided to write to the government demanding action against them.

Commissioner Aaditya Uppal said he was not consulted before the meeting was held. Co-curator Jeevan Jot Kaur said she had not received the agenda for the meeting. Office workers, meanwhile, said they submitted the agenda to all administrative officials.

MC will apply for smart city status for the city

The congregation decided to write to the government to complete the work on the city bus service, the city bus stop, the dairy relocation project, the relocation of the Sunday market, the installation of CCTV cameras on the roads and supplier policy. The mayor said the MC will also write to the state government to give Patiala smart city status.

Corruption complaint dismissed

Councilor Krishan Chand Budhu said the MC has witnessed maximum corruption during this tenure. Although his rhetoric did not receive support from councillors, it was snubbed by Mayor Sanjeev Sharma Bittu.
