The Hokies end the Lenny Lyles Invitational with three facility records

BLACKSBURG Freshman Katrin Brzyszkowska broke the Norton Heathcare Sports and Learning Center record Saturday at the Lenny Lyles Invitational by clearing a personal best distance of 55’2.75″ (16.83m) in the shot put. Brzyszkowska’s mark is the first in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

“Outstanding performance from Katrin today,” said Assistant Head Coach Andrew Dubs. “It’s been a whirlwind of a month for him with a little bit of adversity today. I’m very proud of how he’s been able to stay focused. He’s an excellent competitor and I look forward to seeing more of his success this season.”

Brzyszkowska started the day in third, finishing under 50’10” (15.5m) on her first attempt. After warming up with each attempt, she moved up the leaderboard one place at a time. In the second round, she finished second before taking over the race in the third round, breaking the old facility record of 52’2″ (15 .91m) set by Notre Dame’s Rachel Tanczos a year ago. Essence Henderson finished second with a season-best distance of 54’0″ (16.46m).

Tyson Jones finished second in the men’s shot put and sent 17.98 m to the landing area.

Sprints

A sprinter Judson Lincoln IV holds two facility records at Louisville after taking first in the men’s 400 meters in 46.67. Kennedy Harrison finished second with a time of 47.15.

Lincoln IV ran the anchor in the 4×400-meter relay, running 22 in the first lap to hold on to the Hokies’ lead, the second-fastest split of the day. Tech set a department record time of 3:09.89, controlling the race with each passing of the baton. Kennedy Harrison, Cole Beckand Ali Diaby joined the Lincoln IV record race.

Beck also competed in the 200m, crossing the line second at 21:18.

Jumps

Rank 15^th on the NCAA DI top performance list, Close Pyles set a personal record of 42’4″ (12.90m) in the triple jump and placed second on her third attempt.

In the men’s triangle, Chauncey Chambers won his third meet of the season with a leap of 51’7.25″ (15.73m) in the first round. Teammate Caleb Stephens finished fourth with a distance of 48’3.2″ (14.71m).

High jumper Aidan Clark is exactly 13^th At the NCAAs, a season-best height of 7’0.5″ (2.15m) and finished second.

Pole vaulting

Third in the ACC Harrison Rice placed third in the pole vault with a season-best height of 17’0″ (5.18m).
