The Cardinals advance to the Earl Yestingsmeier Championship

DADE CITY, Florida The Cardinals closed out the first two rounds of the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play with a 4-1-1 win over the Central Michigan Chippewas and a 3-3 tie against High Point University to advance to tomorrow’s championship game.

Today’s line-up consisted of fifth year parents Joey Ranierisecond year student Kash Bellarredshirt sophomore Griffin Hareredshirt sophomore Ali Khanfreshman Carter Smith and a sophomore Colin Nasser.

Ranieri played steady through the first 18 holes and collected one UP win. After being at double through 11 holes, Bellar finished the first round with a 3&1 win. Smith had one UP win, while Nasser made an impressive comeback with six UP wins after losing two of his first nine.

The second match of the day started at 1:30 PM against High Point University. The Cardinals tied the game 3-3 and battled High Point from the start. The Cardinals earned a spot in the championship match because Ball State won more holes than High Point. Ranieri ended match two with a 2&1 win. Khan won 3&1 while Smith recorded a 4&3 win to match High Point University’s three wins.

The Cardinals return to action tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. for the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play Championship. Ball State takes on Drake. Live results can be found here.
