USC women’s tennis set for three-match weekend at home

ANGELS –The USC women’s tennis team continues Pac-12 play this weekend as the Trojans host Utah on Friday and Colorado on Saturday at Marks Stadium. Friday’s game starts at 1:30 PM PT, while Saturday’s doubleheader starts at noon against Colorado.

The Trojans will also play a non-conference game Saturday afternoon against Pomona-Pitzer at 4 p.m.

Saturday is Senior Day at Marks Stadium with the Trojans Nathalie Rodiloso is scheduled to be honored on the field prior to the start of the Colorado game.

In the most recent ITA rankings, USC was ranked No. 35 in the team category and has three ranked singles players.

Freshman Maddy Sieg led the way at No. 5, followed by senior Eryn Cayetano at No. 35 and Snow Han Well. 83. The Women of Troy also boasts two ranked duos in No. 22 Cayetano/Sieg and No. 33 Han/Naomi Cheong.

PLEASE NOTE:

• Freshman No. 5 Maddy Sieg is undefeated in 2023 with a 10-0 singles record (Sieg missed one match due to injury). The Trojan freshman leads the team with 20 singles wins this season.
• USC senior Nathalie Rodiloso leads the Trojans in doubleheader wins this season with 16.
• Trojan McKenna Koenig has won three games for the Trojans this season with clutch hits against LMU, Stetson and Dartmouth.
• This week ends the Trojans’ nine-game home streak. They return home for their final game at Marks on April 22 against Hawaii.

LAST TIME:

USC went 1-1 last weekend when the Trojans faced Pac-12 Bay rivals No. 18 Stanford and Cal.
The Trojans fell 4-3 to Stanford (4-3) as USC dropped a doubles point, bombed in singles to tie things up, but eventually came away with a win in the hunt for a comeback win.

A day later, USC made a comeback against Cal for good, erasing a three-point deficit by winning four straight singles matches to seal the conference victory 4-3.

SCOUTING UTAH:

In the latest ITA poll, Utah women’s tennis was ranked No. 59. The Utes are 10-6, last falling to Oregon on March 19. Utah head coach Ric Mortera is entering his fourth season. helm. No Utes are currently ranked in singles or doubles.

SCOUTING COLORADO:

The currently unranked Buffs are 9-3, 0-3 and looking for their first 10-win season since 2019. They face UCLA on Friday before playing at Marks Stadium on Saturday. Colorado looks to get its first points in Los Angeles since a 7-2 loss to USC in 1999. The Buffs are coming off their best win of the season with a No. 71 road win over Northern Arizona in Flagstaff. Currently, the Buffs do not have any ranked singles or doubles.

SOUTING POMONA-PITZER

Pomona-Pitzer is 8-4 overall, 2-0 in the SCIAC and riding a five-game winning streak. There are currently no Sagehens in ITA singles or doubles. Most recently, Pomona-Pitzer swept Caltech 9-0 on Tuesday, March 28.
