Salisbury – In loving memory of Donald Franklin Pike, 86, of Salisbury who was called home to be with the Lord on May 19, 2023, after a brief illness. He was a devoted and devoted husband, loving father, devoted brother and brave friend and will be missed by all who knew him. Don was born on September 4, 1936, in Amesbury to Franklin and Dorothy (Rogers) Pike and grew up in Salisbury. After graduating from Amesbury High School in 1954 he attended Essex Agricultural School studying horticulture and landscape design until his graduation in 1956. He then attended the University of Massachusetts for an additional year in 1957 before he became an apprentice plumber. After training he went on to a long career at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a nuclear inspector until his retirement. Don met the love of his life, Joan, while they both attended Amesbury High School. She was a football player, captain of the team in 1954 and she was a majorette. They married after he graduated college and settled in Salisbury where they raised their four children, Tim, Tom, Stephanie, and Julie. To all who knew him, Don was a force of nature; hardworking, dedicated, loving, kind, generous, and honest. He is always ready to share a story or joke to lighten the mood. Above all, he is determined to provide for his family and give them the life he thinks they deserve. He was endlessly proud of all his children and grandchildren and always tried his best to support them. He is especially grateful to his neighbors whom he considers extended family. Their devotion to his welfare was truly an act of love. He had a lifelong passion for the outdoors as a sportsman, avid gardener, and meticulous landscaper. He was a long-term member of the Khatadin Club, a devoted Freemason and past master of St. Marks Lodge, AF & AM in Newburyport and served his local community and church by volunteering for many events. He was a dedicated Boston sports fan, a lover of dogs, and everything Robert Frost wrote. Don was predeceased by his loving wife Joan, his parents and his brothers Charles and Bruce. He is survived by his brother Russell and sister Lorraine. He was the loving father of his grateful children, Timothy, and wife Tricia; Thomas, and wife Susan; Stephanie Russell and her partner Matt McKenzie; and Julie Pike Edmond and her partner Jay Murphy. He is the devoted and devoted grandfather of Christina Pike, Bethany Pike, Amanda Bennett, Justin Blonda, Emme Pike, Ruby Edmond and Dash Edmond. He was a treasured uncle to many nieces and nephews. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pettengill House at pettengillhouse.org and mailed in care of Paul C. Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, MA 01913 or at paulcrogers.com. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday May 24, 2023, from 4 to 8 pm at the Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, MA 01913, with Masonic Services to be held at 7:30 pm of St . Mark’s Lodge , AF & AM A funeral service is planned for Thursday May 25, 2023, at Hampton Falls First Baptist Church in Hampton Falls at 3 Lincoln Avenue, Hampton Falls, NH 03844 at 11 am followed by a reception. Don will be laid to rest next to his wife Joan in a private graveside service next week.
