WASHINGTON Sen. said. Mitt Romney it’s time for former President Donald Trump to move away from the “big lie” about the 2020 election because continued claims of election fraud are damaging democracy around the world.

“I can tell you that it is certainly being used around the world to reduce support for democracy. There is a battle going on in the world today between autocratic countries like China and Russia and countries that believe in democracy,” he said. the Utah Republican told Jake Tapper on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday.

Autocratic countries can teach the United States and say it can’t run an election that isn’t fraudulent, so what about other countries?

“That, obviously, has an impact on the cause of democracy and freedom around the world,” Romney said.

Romney said Trump cried badly even before election night, adding the question of what his sources of information were.

“Did he hear it from the Justice Department? No. Did he hear it from the intelligence community? No. Where, where did he hear it? The My Pillow guy? Rudy Giuliani?” he said. “It’s very clear that the election is fair. It’s not the outcome the president wants, but let’s move on.”

Mike Lindell, the founder and CEO of My Pillow, is a prominent Trump supporter and adviser.

In his first rally since leaving office, Trump reiterated his baseless allegations of fraud in a majority in northeastern Ohio over the weekend.

“We have won the election twice and it is possible that we will win for the third time. It is possible,” he said.

Romney, who voted twice in the Senate to remove Trump from office, said he believes there is a growing recognition “that it is similar to the WWF (World Wrestling Federation, as it is called WWE), which is amusing but it is not true “I know people like to say they believe big lies in some cases, but I think people recognize that it’s a lot of show and bombast.”

But, he added, it’s going nowhere. “The election was fair,” he said.

“It has big implications,” Romney said. “It shouldn’t happen again. Any effort to understand why it happened is, I think, appropriate.”
