And we get our first glimpse of their ship, which appears to be the NX 76884 USS Protostar. Since it bears the NX registration, this may have been an experimental ship or a prototype of some kind.
A protostar is a very young star that still gathers its mass from a parent molecular cloud and has been mentioned in “Star Trek” before. Enterprise NX-01 surveyed a protostar just before the accident at P’Jem’s Vulcan Abbey in the “The Andorian Incident” episode (S01, E07) and the Argolis Cluster was a proto-block mentioned in “Deep Space” nine “episode” Behind the Lines ”(S06, E04).

Interestingly enough, we learned in the Voyager episode “Omega Orientation” (S04, E21) that, in theory, a type 6 protostar could be used to create a wormhole…
In an interview with Dennis Miller on the Dennis Miller+1 podcast, Kate Mulgrew shared some details about the upcoming show. All characters are from the Delta Quadrant, and the show begins just a few years after USS Voyager returns home.

“Five children are imprisoned on a mysterious planet in an unknown part of the galaxy. They escape their prison and race across the planet to find a spacecraft buried in the sands of the planet’s surface,” Mulgrew said in the interview. They enter the ship, but are unable to make it work. As the prison guards heat up, they suddenly find a hologram of emergency training in the shape of Captain Janeway.
“I think it would really capture the imaginations of young children. And if they could sit with their mothers, who watched me in live action, and fathers who loved other men, then we have a familial relationship and this will bring them back full circle.”
