Biden Slams Trump for Calling Ciot Rioters Surprising, ‘Making Force Back on Campaign Trail

President Joe Biden criticized former President Donald Trump for calling the rioters at the Capitol “amazing peaceful people” and cited his 2020 election victory as he promoted Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe to a compulsive return to campaign walk on Friday.

“We just need to keep making the case just like the Republican Party does today with nothing to offer but fear, lies and broken promises,” Biden said at a rally for McAuliffe in Virginia.

“When you think about turning on the television every day and see a replay of what happened on January 6 and say it was a lot of ‘amazing peaceful people’-it’s weird.”

Biden linked himself to McAuliffe and Democrat GOP opponent Glenn Youngkin’s equivalent, to Trump, as he distinguished the two politicians in the state who were defeated by Republicans in 2016 and 2020.

“We both share Terry. I ran against Donald Trump and so did Terry. And I beat Donald Trump in Virginia and so did Terry,” the president said. “I’m telling you what, the man Terry is up against is an acolyte of Donald Trump.”

Biden stressed his pandemic response, the economic recovery under his administration and the $ 1.9 trillion coronavirus aid bill on nearly 3,000 people gathered in a park across the Potomac River, as he stressed the vision for America he shared with McAuliffe.

While he was stumped for McAuliffe, a former governor seeking a second term, Biden dismissed hecklers protesting at an oil pipeline. “It’s not a Trump rally. Let’s holler. No one is paying attention,” he said.

It was Biden’s candidate’s first personal rally since he took office in January, and marked a return to politics as normal after a presidential campaign in 2020 that saw him attract supporters almost and in front of sparse crowds.

The White House press secretary told those concerned about Delta’s extremely serious diversity that Biden would follow CDC guidelines, which do not require masks or other restrictions for individuals to fully who have been vaccinated.

McAuliffe followed Biden’s leadership, focusing on his commitment to being selective and moving away from political turmoil over the past four years. “Why are you so close to Glenn Youngkin and Donald Trump?” McAuliffe asked. “Because they share the same agenda.”

McAuliffe won the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in June, and will face off against Trump -backed Youngkin, a former executive producer, in the November election.

Virginia, the only state with an open career for governor this year, is expected to be widely watched as an early test of voter sentiment in each party ahead of the midterm election.
