CDC warns against unvaccinated travel ahead of Labor Day weekend as delta variant rises

The White House’s COVID-19 response team held a briefing Tuesday (Aug. 31) and covered a wide variety of topics.

They discussed the importance of vaccination during pregnancy, recommendations for a safe Labor Day weekend, and going back to school. It seems that more people are getting the message about the importance of vaccines.

The pace of vaccinations across the country has increased. The number of daily doses has increased by 80% since last month. There is also an increase in the number of people getting their first injections, encouraging news as the delta variant continues to increase.

Increased transmission across the country before Labor Day weekend travel sparked a warning from CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky.

Given where we are right now with disease transmission, we’d say people should consider these risks in their own mind when thinking about travel. First and foremost, if you’re not vaccinated, we recommend you don’t travel, Walensky said.

dr. Anthony Fauci stressed the need for pregnant women to be vaccinated. Fauci also highlighted a New England Journal of Medicine study that looked at more than 35,000 participants in the V-Safe Database who identified as pregnant and found no clear safety signs in pregnant individuals who received the mRNA COVID vaccines.

There was no concern about breastfeeding women. A bonus effect of vaccination was that neutralizing antibodies were also found in breast milk.
