Governor Phil Murphys’ weekly coronavirus press conference is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at the Trenton War Memorial as COVID-19 cases continue to rise and now all New Jersey counties have viral activity high enough to fall. qualify for interior masking according to federal guidelines.

The executive decree requiring masks in schools comes amid the continuing rise in cases and hospitalizations. Most cases are due to the delta variant and almost all of those hospitalized have not been vaccinated, officials have said repeatedly in recent weeks.
There are 651 patients in 71 New Jersey hospitals with the coronavirus or a suspected case as of Monday morning, including 117 in intensive care and 59 on a ventilator, according to the state’s dashboard. That’s more than double the 316 patients a month ago.
There were more than 3,800 patients in hospitals at the end of December and more than 8,000 at the height of the pandemic in mid-April 2020.
Authorities on Sunday announced 1,208 additional COVID-19 cases, as well as six deaths.
At least 5,356,361 people who live, work or study in the state are vaccinated against the virus.
New Jersey has now reported a total of 26,651 COVID-19-related deaths in just over 17 months, 23,932 confirmed and 2,719 probable, according to the state Department of Health. This is the highest number of coronavirus deaths per capita in the United States. The state is the first in the country to record 300 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants.
Murphy has no further appearances scheduled for Monday.
