Bitcoin’s hashrate slowly climbed from 85 exahash per second (EH / s) to 125 EH / s on July 14. The increased hash power has caused the next change in mining difficulty to increase for the first time in eight weeks. The four consecutive difficulty drops turned out to be the biggest slide in Bitcoin’s life, and it appears to be coming to an end in four days.
Bitcoin’s hashrate moves north
The price of bitcoin (BTC) fell for a few consecutive weeks, and during the same period, the Chinese crackdown on bitcoin miners was also occurring. On May 15, the price of bitcoin started to drop just above the $ 50,000 handle to fall just above the $ 30,000 area on May 19.
A drop in prices essentially wipes out bitcoin miners’ income and when BTC started slipping on May 15, mining difficulty had jumped two days earlier, up 21.53% from the previous adjustment. Because it was over 21% more difficult for the miners to find a block, the next two weeks were exhausting.

On top of that, the Chinese government – in various provinces – has cracked down on bitcoin miners and banned the act in specific areas. Minors caught by surprise were told they had to shut down the facility by a certain date.
Before June 9 and two small drops to 137 EH / s, the hashrate managed to stay above 150 EH / s with 21% higher difficulty. However, China’s actions had a huge impact on Chinese bitcoin miners and on June 28 the hashrate was only 66 EH / s.
Fortunately, bitcoin miners got the first downward difficulty adjustment on May 29 when it slipped 15.97%. As the price of BTC worsened, making it harder for miners to profit, entities that help secure the blockchain received three more difficulty drops.
The difficulty should increase by 3-5%
The four consecutive mining difficulty drops have made it 54% easier to find BTC blocks over the past two weeks, compared to the difficulty height before May 13. The subsequent downward adjustments will likely change in four days with a possible increase of around 35%.
The Bitcoin difficulty on July 27, 2021, shows a possible increase of around 4.4% in four days.
If the estimate comes true, it will still be almost 50% easier to find BTC blocks than before mid-May 2021. However, that will depend on what happens in the next four days with regards to the hashrate. .
If the hashrate increases a lot by then, the difficulty could exceed 5%. If the global hash power were to decrease significantly, the estimated increase could be reversed and revert to another decrease. At the current hash rate, a 3-5% increase is expected, which shouldn’t be too exhausting for miners to manage.
At the time of writing, the top bitcoin mining pool is Antpool with 19.26% hashrate and 19 EH / s. Antpool is followed by Binance pool (12.47%), F2pool (11.82%), Poolin (11.38%) and Viabtc (10.50%).
