Key takeaways Bitcoin and Ethereum were the top CB10 winners last month. The August rebalance saw only small changes in token allocation percentages with no new additions. Dogecoin was the index’s biggest loser, with the same crypto falling 18.1% in July. Share this article
Crypto Briefing’s CB10 crypto market index gave Bitcoin and Ethereum extra space during the August rebalance.
The CB10 index records gains
Crypto Briefing’s CB10 index surged in July with help from the two major cryptocurrencies.
The CB10 index is an experiment made up of the top ten cryptocurrencies traded on the major US exchanges and weighted by market capitalization. The technique is similar to that of the S&P 500 and NASDAQ 100 indices.
The CB10 has gained 17.3% since the last rebalancing event on July 1. The overall gains of Bitcoin and Ethereum over the same period were 19.5% and 22.1% respectively.
Annual price performance CB10 (black), Bitcoin (orange), Ethereum (blue)
The index’s performance benefited from higher gains than BTC in the first six months to continue to outperform Bitcoin’s 31% cumulative gains. ETH leads the way with gains of 250%, while CB10 has seen gains of 50% since its formation on January 5. Dogecoin and Cardano’s ADA token were the biggest losers in CB10 last month.
Latest Crypto Market Trends
The crypto market has shown its first signs of recovery after the recent May crash, with Bitcoin hitting $ 40,000. Ethereum took advantage of this uptrend as the impending EIP-1559 update added to the bullish sentiment.
If Bitcoin consolidates above the resistance of $ 42,000 or if Ethereum breaks $ 3,000, the market can expect capital to flow into other cryptocurrencies.
As trading volumes begin to increase for other cryptocurrencies, the flow to smaller market cap tokens is limited as BTC has yet to reestablish a strong bullish narrative. Traders are reluctant to take the bullish position. They fear the recent surge to $ 40,000 may be a dead cat rebound or an upward correction in a long-term negative trend, suggesting the floor may be below $ 29,000.
Crypto Briefing Experimental $ 1,000 Portfolio Sneak Peek Before Rebalancing
DOGE’s poor performance in the CB10 index can be attributed to cooling the bullish euphoria after Elon Musk stopped tweeting about the coin. The values of other cryptocurrencies except DOGE and ADA have increased at almost the same rate with Bitcoin and Ethereum.
The crypto market is looking for a definitive direction as cryptocurrencies below ETH nervously track the first two.
CB10 rebalances for August
The reconstitution of Crypto Briefing’s $ 1,000 experimental portfolio in CB10 was carried out at 10:00 a.m. on July 2, 2021.
Its makeup for August saw no change in cryptocurrencies from the July top ten list. However, there have been minor percentage changes and consequent ranking adjustments.
Bitcoin and Ethereum profited the most from shares of other tokens, adding 1.92% to their allocations. Ethereum, again, makes up over a quarter of the index’s distribution.
The variation of almost all other cryptocurrencies has nevertheless been negative, with a small magnitude of less than 1%. Additionally, Uniswap switched positions with Bitcoin Cash to take sixth place, with Chainlink replacing Solana in ninth place with small percentage changes.
Rebalancing of CB10 on August 2
This month’s rebalancing of CB10 can be done quite easily taking into account small miscalculations. Instead of reallocating all tokens, a change in the first five tokens alone might do the trick. Investors can sell the best tokens for a stablecoin, Bitcoin, or Ethereum pair, then redeem based on the new percentages.
Some may also choose to reserve a portion of their profits before reinvesting for the following month. For experimental purposes, Crypto Briefing will continue to compose returns each month.
