Bitcoin ATMs to be installed at Circle K gas station chain in New York

Buying cryptocurrency will be as easy as refueling and grabbing snacks after a new deal to install bitcoin ATMs at a convenience store and chain of gas stations nationwide.

New Yorkers will soon be able to refuel and buy cryptocurrency after the Circle K gas station chain announced a deal to install Bitcoin ATMs.

Our goal is to provide as much access as possible to consumers, by installing more ATMs in all 50 U.S. states, including all of New York City, Brandon Mintz, CEO of Atlanta-based Bitcoin Depot, told The Post.

Users can feed traditional money into a bitcoin ATM to buy cryptocurrency quickly and easily, using their cellphones to create a digital wallet to store the funds they buy from ATMs.

Machines can also send money abroad inexpensively, an option that can be very appealing to unbanked New Yorkers.

The unbanked make up about 10% of New York City households, according to the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection, and typically include poorer immigrant residents who don’t depend on traditional financial institutions to hold their money.

The cryptocurrency is considered legal tender in El Salvador and support for its legitimization is gaining ground in Latin America, according to a report.

Our kiosks [also] allow these people to store their capital digitally, instead of accumulating money under the pillow, said Derek Muhney of rival Coinsource, a bitcoin ATM provider in New York City, who said the power to The region’s substantial purchase could turn the Big Apple into a cryptocurrency jackpot.

Circle K has 6,336 stores nationwide, including several in New Jersey and one in Long Island. Bitcoin Depot is awaiting regulatory approval to operate in New York.

Today, there are at least 20,000 bitcoin ATMs across the country, including several hundred in the New York City area placed in bodegas, delis, laundromats, and other places.
