Bitcoin’s jump above a long-term moving average, showing up as resistance of around $ 45,000, was broken for the first time in over two months.
The world’s largest cryptocurrency by market cap is currently changing hands for around $ 45,712 after peaking at $ 46,691 in the past 24 hours, according to data from CoinDesk. The price has continued to climb and is now up 59% from the July 21 low of $ 29,500.
“There appears to be a change in sentiment in the market compared to a few months ago,” Ulrik Lykke, executive director of crypto hedge fund ARK36 told CoinDesk via email. “We recently saw some seemingly negative news about Binance going through regulatory review that didn’t seem to be influencing the price much.”

On Monday, bitcoin broke the 200-day moving average, a long-term indicator of the health of the market, with price action determined to fall below (red line) and rise above. Tuesday’s daily candle marks bitcoin’s first close above the long-term indicator since May 20.
The daily spot volume for August is also at its highest level in more than two weeks, given the recent spate of business activity supported by strong demand.
“There was buying pressure from Coinbase, and I think the demand was coming from institutional investors,” said Ki Young Ju, CEO of Korea-based blockchain analytics firm CryptoQuant. He also noted that based on the “Kimichi Premium” and other on-chain indicators, retail investors were mostly absent from Bitcoin’s recent run.
And while the negative news has slowed, tensions over the crypto-tax provision in the U.S. infrastructure bill appear to remain high.

“The outcome of the bill so far isn’t great, but it’s going to be followed by months of unified crypto lobbying,” Kyle Davies, co-founder of Three Arrows Capital, told CoinDesk on Tuesday. “The United States has seen prominent senior government officials fighting on their behalf for crypto. I think we will see this process as a great unifier that has galvanized the industry.
