Crypto exchanges like Binance and Huobi marked the infamous Bitcoin Pizza Day by announcing competitions
Call it a fad or a real deal, cryptocurrency has taken the world by storm and no one can close their eyes to it. The virtual currency scenario is a brimming space for entrepreneurs and market investors. But how did it all start? The first crypto transaction apparently involved two pizzas. Shocked? Well, on May 22, 2010, Florida-based Laszlo Hanyecz exchanged his Bitcoins for two pizzas at a local pizzeria. The transaction is known as the first official use of Bitcoin for a business transaction with a real business. But Bitcoin was not yet an acceptable currency in the market. So how did Laszlo Hanyecz trade his coins?
First Bitcoin transaction
In 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz spent 10,000 Bitcoins at a local pizzeria called Papa John’s to buy himself two pizzas. Back then, his Bitcoins were only worth $ 40. But, since cryptocurrency was not yet a thing in the trading world, Hanyecz contacted the Bitcointalk community and openly traded his Bitcoins to anyone who would buy him those pizzas. Considering Bitcoin’s current value, which currently exceeds $ 46,000, these two pizzas can be considered the most expensive pizzas of all time.
Pizza day
As this transaction heralded the commercialization of the cryptocurrency in the real world, crypto fans named May 22 Bitcoin Pizza Day. This day ended 11 years this year.
Bitcoin pizza brand
Following the Bitcoin and pizza craze, none of which seems to be stopping anytime soon, Anthony Pompliano (founder and partner of Morgan Creek Digital) announced a Bitcoin Pizza Week via his Twitter account. The drive took place in May. His tweet read: “Today I am announcing Bitcoin Pizza – a new national pizza brand launching in 10 cities.”
Pizza Day Drops
Crypto exchanges like Binance and Huobi marked the infamous Bitcoin Pizza Day by announcing competitions separately. Huobi reportedly managed a prize pool of $ 22,000, where a user would receive $ 5,220. Binance also reportedly ran an NFT promotion offering $ 52,200 worth of Bitcoin pizza to the winner.
Day of Satoshi’s disappearance
Bitcoin Pizza Day isn’t the only time Bitcoin holders have turned a day into an unofficial cryptocurrency vacation. On April 28, 2011, when Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto passed away after stepping down from his role as project manager, Bitcoin holders named him Satoshi Disappear Day.
