Former ‘Home Improvement’ star Zachery Ty Bryan is accused of taking people’s money in a cryptocurrency scam, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Bryan’s profile resurfaced years after his popular show ended in 1999 following an arrest in 2020 that led to a felony strangulation charge. He is best known for his role as Brad Taylor in “Home Improvement”, where he starred alongside stars Tim Allen and Jonathan Taylor Thomas.

Now, four people who said they gave Bryan money to buy digital coins for a startup called Producers Market have told The Hollywood Reporter that Bryan took $50,000 of their money promising to invest it in an opportunity. of cryptocurrency that did not exist.

“I was duped,” a source told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s a punch, that’s for sure.”

Bryan was hired as an adviser by the company after learning how the former child actor amassed a fortune on Bitcoin, according to The Hollywood Reporter. At the time, the company was considering a token sale, an offering of cryptocurrency tokens to private investors to help fund a startup or project.

Soon after, he started promoting digital tokens. The problem was that Producers Market hadn’t established a token sale for the company at the time and ultimately decided against it, according to the outlet.

A woman who spoke to The Hollywood Reporter says she raised $5,000 as a ‘broken student’ after going on a date with Bryan, who convinced her to invest and presented her with a contract before handing over the money. Other sources who spoke to The Hollywood Reporter said they also trust the actor with their money because he was listed as a founding investment partner on the Producers Market website.

A Producers Market spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter that when the company discovered Bryan was offering the nonexistent tokens, it “immediately issued a cease and desist request to him.”

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bryan said he was also confused by the situation.

“It wasn’t me running some sleazy scam business or something that just isn’t me,” Bryan told the publication. He also said he still had a stake in the company and would return his shares to those who accused him of taking their money.

Bryan did not face any criminal charges for his time with Producers Market, and people who spoke with The Hollywood Reporter said they had not alerted authorities or taken legal action.

The Hollywood Reporter’s report on Bryan, who continues to act and promote his conservative views on channels like Newsmax, also highlights the actor’s “downfall” through interviews with friends and former costars.

Allen also spoke to the outlet about his thoughts on Bryan’s situation, calling him “a great kid who turned into a complex man.”

“I don’t know what happens when people are corrupt. You just don’t know,” Allen told The Hollywood Reporter.

A spokesperson for Bryan and a representative for Producers Market did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
