In this week’s Fight Talk we take a look at how the boxing world reacted to an occurred – and somewhat bizarre – night in Florida that saw the return of Evander Holyfield, Donald Trump took over the commentary roles and David Haye beat the his wife before calling a heavy world champion

The boxing world is reacting to Holyfield’s knockout

On Saturday in Florida we witnessed one of the safest nights in boxing history.

Former President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, commented on a night of the fight led by 58-year-old former world heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, with Britain’s David Haye on the undercard.

We don’t make it up.

With so much to choose from, we’ll start with Holyfield’s clash with former UFC fighter in Brazil Vitor Belfort.

Holyfield, who previously held all the belts in the cruiserweight division, has not fought professionally in 10 years, but led to late notice after Cacid-19 was hospitalized with Oscar De La Hoya.

The American failed to throw a significant blow when he suffered a first-round technical knockout to Belfort.

We’ve seen the sharp rise of celebrities and social media stars taking up boxing in recent years, while former Holyfield opponent Mike Tyson also returned at the age of 54 in an exhibition against fellow legend Roy Jones Jr. last year.

But for some of those involved in the sport, seeing an elderly Holyfield return to the Triller Fight Night event – and the way he was defeated – is a step too far.

Trump picks up the mic

Let’s shift the focus to Trump becoming a businessman.

It is fair to say that his involvement in the event rose more than a few eyebrows.

When asked at the pre-fight news conference with whom he wanted to share the ring, Trump told fans he would knock out serving USA president Joe Biden “within the first few seconds”

On the night of the fight, the politician called the action with his son Donald Trump Jr.

In Haye’s fight with Joe Fournier (more on that in a moment), Trump criticized the opposition by saying “right now, the public prefers politics”.

Trump also said that Haye “looks like he has a lot of talent”, perhaps unaware Haye was formerly the undisputed cruiserweight champion who also won the world title in weight.

‘Funny’ – Haye calls Fury

As Trump pointed out, the Londoner Haye comeback fight – his first fight since retiring three years ago – was a pretty frustrating relationship.

Haye, 40, gets 38-year-old Joe Fournier, a businessman who has earned nine wins as a professional.

The two are best friends, with recent photos on social media showing them vacationing in Greece.

In the course of the fight the two regularly exchanged words on social media, with Haye boasting that he would put aside the friendship and find a stop.

But in a completely one-sided encounter, Haye separated his opponent with a dominant score win in the decision, but seemed reluctant to proceed with the knockout.

Fans questioned the authenticity of the ‘friendly rivalry’ between the two boxers

After the battle there is a really twisted plot; Haye – who had previously suggested his fight was a one -off and he happily retired – called on WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

“There’s a guy I’m going back to professional boxing to fight – Tyson Fury. I know his kryptonite,” he said.

Haye suffered multiple injuries at the end of his career and retired from the sport after losing to back -to -back Tony Bellew of Liverpool.

Fury’s next five opponents and spit with Whyte

As for Fury, a few weeks ago he decided to take a break from social media to focus on his upcoming trilogy fight against American Deontay Wilder in Las Vegas on October 9th

Thus, the self-imposed social media blackout was removed because this week he was with a back-and-forth with fellow British heavyweight Dillian Whyte.

The Twitter row exploded after Fury shared who he wants to face in his next five fights, against the old boxing adage that your next opponent should never pass.

The exchange between Fury and Whyte consists of some colorful language, but the general spirit is Fury saying “I want to break you”

The world of boxing is screaming for the undisputed fight between Anthony Joshua and Fury, but there’s no denying that a Whyte-Fury fight will be a blockbuster event, just for the sake of developing on its own.
