Cliff Sims has a new gig. Honestly, it’s more of a revived gig.
Sims, an Alabama native who founded the political website Yellowhammer before becoming an aide to former President Donald Trump, has released his single debut as a singer / songwriter.
The song, titled U, Ur Mom & Me, was recorded in New Jersey with producer Ken Lewis and is the first of many new songs the Sims releases every six weeks. The story tells of he and his wifes process the adoption of their child from Colombia.
I wanted to start with this song because it was the most personal of them all, Sims said. A year ago today, my son became part of our family. This is the story of that journey, and I believe it will resonate with many people.
The song isn’t the first time Sims has helped the music industry. He was previously the lead singer of a band whose songs received airplay on radio and appeared on MTV and in major motion pictures.
I’m sure releasing music will surprise a lot of people, but life is too short to be or just do something, Sims said. If our life is a story then we should at least write an interesting one.
After leaving the music industry and founding Yellowhammer, Sims served as President Trump’s special assistant and director of the White House Message Strategy from 2017-2018. He next wrote the New York Times bestseller team Vipers about his time in the West Wing. He returned to the Trump team, first to lead the writing of the speech for the 2020 Republican National Convention and then as Deputy Director of National Intelligence for Strategy and Communities from 2020 to this year.
U, Ur Mom & Me is available on all major streaming platforms. The release of the songs was also accompanied by a behind-the-scenes video of the song with back-the-scene footage, and an official lyric video, both of which can be viewed on CliffSims.com.
