A fan shows a small, but important difference between the images on the Kingdom Hearts stage of Sora and the original image from Kingdom Hearts.
Word has officially come out: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has the ultimate fighter DLC. The final fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is none other than Sora, the main character from the Kingdom Hearts series, complete with Keyblade, combos, magic, and various costumes from the entire series.
Sora has been coming to Super Smash Bros. for a long time. Ultimate by estimation of the players and creator of the game, Masahiro Sakurai. In the same tradition as the other DLC warriors, Sora’s arrival also comes with a new phase from the world of Kingdom Hearts: a tour around the outside of the Hollow Bastion along with a Dive to the Heart. But the second part of the stage had people noticing something strange.

With all that has been announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate including Sora, the stage details are pretty tame. The simple stage changes its appearance, but not its function, when the match moves towards its end. It becomes a place called Dive to the Heart, the inner heart scene of a Kingdom Hearts character. But one fan noticed a subtle change in Sora’s heart: the picture that shows the most important thing in Sora’s life is Donald and Goofy missing.
In the original art for Kingdom Hearts, the image shows Sora at rest before what looks like a stained glass window featuring four other characters. These are Kairi, Riku, Donald, and Goofy. However, on the Smash Bros. stage, it is obvious that Donald and Goofy are gone, replaced by a paopu fruit and a raft, two things that were important to Sora early on in Kingdom Hearts 1. This will be even more noticeable in the owner of Switch because the Kingdom Hearts series is coming to Switch, and the original art will be displayed for all to see. This is also true for Riku’s Dive, which no longer features Mickey Mouse.
Some players are confused by this, but there are already explanations offered. Most famously Disney did not allow its characters in Smash Bros. Considering the upcoming 20th anniversary of the Kindom Hearts festival, this explanation disgusted subscribers.
However, another explanation is offered: that Super Smash Bros Ultimate uses assets created after the original Kingdom Hearts Dives, assets that do not use Disney characters. This may be the case, as the elimination of all Disney characters in particular seems less revealing. I hope the change doesn’t affect people who praise Masahiro Sakurai.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out for the Nintendo Switch.
