Chase slammed the GOP event clash with Donald Trump Jr.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP)-Conservatives broke JPMorgan Chase on Thursday after a subsidiary pulled out of a business deal related to a political fundraiser in Missouri that would feature Donald Trump Jr.

The Missouri political action committee Defense of Liberty is using online payment company WePay for ticketing for the Dec. 3 event in the suburban city of St. Louis. St. Louis. Charles.

But state Sen. Bill Eigel, a co-host, said WePay cut Defense of Liberty services in Nov. 9.

According to a screenshot of an email provided by Eigel, WePay wrote that PAC violated its terms of service against “hate, violence, racial intolerance, terrorism, financial exploitation of a crime” or solicitation of that behavior.

Chase representatives did not respond to Associated Press questions seeking more information on why WePay said the Defense of Liberty violated that policy.

After another organizer announced on Tuesday that the event would be canceled, Chase reversed course.

“After further review, we determined that this organization did not violate the terms of service, and we are in contact with the client to discuss account return,” a Chase spokesperson said in a statement Thursday. “To be clear, we never and will never close an account because of a client’s political affiliation.”

Eigel said the PAC account was still canceled Thursday afternoon. He wanted to reschedule the event for another day.

“The damage is done, whatever happens going forward,” Eigel said.

Republicans use the misunderstanding as an example of “cancel culture” attacking conservatives.

Attorney General Eric Schmitt, who is in a tight Republican primary for the U.S. Senate, on Thursday tweeted that “this Cancel Culture nonsense needs to stop.” Schmitt, as well as U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley, wrote every letter to JP Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon questioned the decision.

“Missouri will not allow a strong bank that displays discrimination against political views with which it disagrees,” Schmitt wrote in his letter. “Missourians deserve an explanation as to why this event was canceled.”
