CDP hires Donald Chan as boss of Asia Pacific | News | Eco-Business

CDP, a non-profit that measures the carbon exposure of companies and governments, has hired a manager to oversee the Asia Pacific region.

Donald Chan plays the role of managing director of APAC, and he was the first executive to run the entire region for the CDP. In the past, Asia Pacific ran out of CDP headquarters in London. CDP also has regional offices in Japan and India.

Chan joined from Temasek, where he is an operating partner, and was involved in setting up new ventures for the state investment firm, including Climate Impact X, Singapore’s new global carbon exchange and marketplace. Previously, he held roles at mobile operator Circles.Life, where he led international expansion, and the Monetary Authority of Singapore, Singapore’s central bank and regulator.

Formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project, the CDP is a major player in the decarbonization movement. It is a founding partner of the Science-Based Targets Initiative, which aligned companies with the Paris Agreement on climate change. In October, more than 13,000 companies disclosed climate, water and deforestation data through the CDP, an increase of 37 percent over the previous year.

Chan’s appointment came as Pratima Divgi, CDP director for Southeast Asia (ASEAN), Australia, New Zealand (ANZ) and Hong Kong moved to the United States and a role for the North America team of non- profit. Divgi joined CDP in 2019 from Aberdeen Standard Investments, where he is an investment manager.

CDP is currently looking for a replacement director for ASEAN and ANZ, which may be based in Singapore or Hong Kong.
