Donald Trump invokes antisemitic tropes in interview with Israeli journalists

In a new interview with Israeli journalist Barak Ravid, would-be fascist dictator Donald Trump rants and utters a series of antisemitic tropes including control of Jews in the U.S. Congress and media and has “ dual loyalty ”to Israel and America.

Several clips of Trump’s interview with Ravid were played Thursday night for the first time on “Unholy Podcast,” a weekly program hosted by Yonit Levi of Channel 12 Israel from Tel Aviv and Jonathan Freeland of the Guardian from London.

The interview was conducted by Ravid in preparation for a book he wrote about the Abraham Accords negotiated between the US, Israel and the United Arab Emirates on August 13, 2020, while Trump was President.

In the first clip, Trump begins by trying to hide his antisemitism by talking about his father’s “very close” connection to Jews in the New York City real estate market and his “many Jewish friends. “and in his” great love for Israel. “

Trump then said in his rant, “There are people in this country who are Jews who no longer love Israel. I will tell you that Evangelical Christians love Israel more than Jews in this country.”

Trump attacked Jews who did not support him, “Israel used to have full power in Congress and now I think it’s exactly the opposite, and I think Obama and Biden did that. And yet in the election, they still get a lot of votes from the Jewish people … which tells you that the Jewish people, and I have said this for a long time. Jews in the United States may not like Israel or not care about Israel. ”

The former President and leader of the Republican Party quickly moved on to the subject of who controls the media, “I mean, you look at The New York Times, The New York Times hates Israel, hates them, and they’re Jewish people that run The New York Times, I mean the Sulzberger family.

This isn’t the first time Trump’s antisemitism has been shown to the world. Trump also said Republicans won’t support him because he “doesn’t want to [their] money ”but he would be“ the best thing that could happen to Israel. ”

In August 2017, Trump defended neo-Nazis and white supremacists who ramped up Charlottesville, Virginia with torches, shouting “We will not be replaced by Jews.” Speaking to reporters following the Unite the Right rally, which resulted in the murder of counter-protester Heather Heyer by one of the fascists, he said the far-right mob included “very good people.”

Trump’s repetition of anti-Jewish stereotypes could be dismissed as the rambles of an ignoramus if not for what he repeatedly did — both after he was elected President in 2016 and after he was defeated in 2020 — advancing himself. as a dictator-president by attempting to overthrow the U.S. Constitution and by directly imitating the Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

In his speech in August 2020 at the conclusion of the Republican National Convention, Trump gave a fascist speech from the lawn of the White House, which the World Socialist Web Site described as a run for the Führer, in which he said, “The election that it will decide whether we save the American dream or whether we allow a socialist agenda to destroy our beloved destiny. ” He declared that “Biden is a Trojan horse for socialism” and for “wild-eyed Marxists like Bernie Sanders.”

When Trump returned to the White House on October 5, 2020, after being hospitalized for COVID-19, he clearly emulated Hitler’s arrival at the 1934 Nazi Party Congress as depicted in the Nazi film Triumph of the Will.

As more details continue to emerge about the Jan. 6 events in the U.S. Capitol, it becomes clearer that day, Donald Trump mobilized a fascist mob to block Congressional certification of Joe Biden as President and thus remaining in office as dictator-president.

As happened throughout the twentieth century, the use of anti-Semitism was crucial to the development of right-wing violence and fascism that ultimately aimed to suppress working class struggles.
