Former United States President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against New York Attorney General Letitia James.

The case was filed in a federal court in Syracuse, New York, first reported by The New York Times, as an attempt by Mr Trump to block the investigation of Ms James ’civil fraud into his business.

The attorney general’s office is investigating whether the Trump Organization manipulated the valuation of its real estate assets.

In the lawsuit, Mr Trump said Ms James violated their rights under the constitution, by continuing the investigation with a political motive.

“By filing this lawsuit, we intend not only to hold him accountable for his outright constitutional violations but to stop his bitter crusade to punish his political opponent in its paths,” Mr’s lawyer said. Trump and Alina Habba.

In May, a spokeswoman for Ms James said: “We have informed The Trump Organization that our investigation into the organization is no longer purely civil in nature.

The inquiry led by Ms. James – a Democrat – had previously been dubbed a “witch hunt” by the former Republican president.

These include claims of inflating the value of some assets to secure higher lending, and undervaluing other properties to obtain tax breaks.

Among the properties in question are Mr. Trump’s estate north of Manhattan, an office building in New York City, a hotel in Chicago and a golf course in Los Angeles.

A separate investigation conducted by Manhattan district attorney Cyrus Vance – also a Democrat – looks at Mr Trump’s business dealings before he was elected to the White House.

Ms James’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
