A Trump Organization spokesman dismissed the subpoena as a result of “Attorney General James’ own ambition as he tries to run as Governor.”

“This political persecution is illegal, unethical and a travesty of our great state and legal system,” the spokesperson said.

What could happen if Trump ignores the subpoena?

Throughout the process and in some investigations into his conduct and business activities, Trump had absolutely no intention of cooperating with investigators or complying with subpoenas.

His legal team responded to numerous requests for his involvement or information by seeking to delay and disrupt the process. Since the investigation James brought is related to a civil case, refusing to comply could hurt Trump if the case goes to trial. Unlike in criminal cases, judges and jurors are allowed to consider such denials in their decision-making for civil cases.

In a statement released this week, James said: “These delay tactics will not prevent us from following the facts or the law, so we will ask the court to force Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump who testified with our office under oath. Our investigation will continue unabated. “

Recently it was revealed that the New York investigation also included two of Trump’s sons, Donald Jr. and Ivanka, who was also named in the subpoena from December. Their involvement in the case was disclosed in court documents filed on Monday, Jan. 3 as attorneys acting on their behalf sought to protect them from subpoena.
