At dawn on December 22, the Lord called the home of a special son of God, Capt./Dr. Isaac Walkup.

The 36-year-old Texas native died in Cochise County Arizona where he was stationed at Fort Huachuca Army Base. It was one of the many assignments he enjoyed, bringing therapeutic healing to his fellow soldiers.

Capt. Walkup was loved by the family he left behind, and highly respected by his colleagues. He will always be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor and unwavering fairness. He was a talented artist, drawing a lot of amazing things in Etch-A-Sketch. He has mad Rubik’s cube skills, solving many of them in seconds.

He is highly educated, but he is extremely humble about his many framed diplomas, volunteers and awards.

The 2004 Canyon High School graduate received a Summa Cum Laude BS in Exercise and Sports Science from Texas State in August 2009.

Then came Army First Lt. Medical Special Services in March 2012 followed by an Army-Baylor Doctorate in Physical Therapy in August 2013. At Army-Baylor he also received dual Masters of Hospital Administration and Business Administration.

He is proud to serve our country and make a difference in all of his assignments which include Kuwait and Johns Hopkins.

Nothing makes him happier or more proud than being the father of seven -year -old Jenni whom he admires. She and other family members were flooded with love and support.

Dr. The walkup was brought home to Texas with the entire military escort. The internment will take place in Ft. Sam Houston where he worked with passion at SAMMC.

A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. Jan. 22 at Oakwood Baptist Church 2154 Loop 337, New Braunfels 78130.

In exchange for flowers, her family requested that those who know and love her support one of several mental health options.

In addition to Jenni, Dr. Walkup is fondly remembered by Jenni’s mother Carrie Walkup of Schertz, her proud parents Tim and Mell Walkup of New Braunfels, sister Rachel Emry and her husband Justice Quintana of Wimberley, grandmother to mother Judy Mapes of Minnesota, nieces, a niece and many aunts, uncles, cousins, colleagues and friends.
