The U.S. Secret Service arrested a 72-year-old man in New York on Monday after he allegedly called them threatening to kill former president Donald Trump, according to a criminal indictment.

Brooklyn prosecutors say Thomas Welnicki “knew and voluntarily threatened to kill, kidnap, and inflict bodily harm” on the former U.S. president.

It says Melnick told U.S. Capitol Police in an interview in July 2020 that if “Trump loses the 2020 election and he refuses to step down” he will “take up arms and step down.”

Trump was referred to as “Individual-1” in the indictment.

Melnick is also accused of leaving two voice mail messages at the Secret Service office in Long Island, New York in January last year in which he “threatened to kill” Trump as well as 12 unnamed members of Congress.

“Oh yes that’s a threat, come and arrest me. I will do everything to get rid of it [Individual-1] and his 12 monkeys, ”Melnick, who lives in Queens, is said to have said.

Melnick was also accused of calling the Secret Service desk in New York City in November three times from his cell phone, introducing himself at each opportunity.

“He repeatedly referred to Individual-1 as‘ Hitler ’and said,‘ I will do everything to make sure [Individual-1] is dead, “the defendant said.

In another call last month, he said that “the new Civil war could break out and taking up arms against the government is justified when the ballots don’t matter.”

He added that he previously owned a .22 caliber gun, according to the indictment.

Melnick was arraigned in Brooklyn federal court by videoconference on Monday and will be released on $ 50,000 bond.

As part of his bail conditions, he was ordered nightly house arrest and fitted with a GPS monitoring device. In addition, he was ordered to seek support for his mental health as well as seek treatment for any alcohol or drug addiction, a spokesman for the prosecutor’s office said.
