January 7, 2023 – Woodland, WI – Donald Carl Braunschweig (Dangerous Donnie and Pa Donnie), 78, entered the
eternal glory in heaven as he is surrounded by his family at his home in Woodland, WI,
after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Donnie was born August 29, 1944 in Ashippun, WI to Carl and Mabel (Henschel)
Braunschweig. On May 25, 1968, Donnie married Darlene (Berghammer)
in St. Marys in Woodland. It is in Woodland that Donnie and Darlene live entirely
life and create a loving family and legacy. Donnie is proud to have served his country in
Army National Guard from 1965-1971 earning the rank of Specialist.
For many years, Donnie worked with his father, Carl, on and off the family farm
later operated the Woodland Feed Mill. After his father died they closed the feed mill
and he began working at Maysteel Corporation where he worked for 29 years as a machinist
and supervisor. In 1989 he started B&B Wood Floors with his wife Darlene. Because of
unmatched quality workmanship and then word of mouth, the business continued
grow and develop. His son Jason took over the business in 2014 but is still Donnie
continued working part-time until he was diagnosed with cancer.
Donnie was a lifelong member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Woodland where he was
first confirmed in his faith. He has great dedication and devotion to everything related to
his church and served in many positions and committees. That was Ron’s running joke
Dahm and Donnie are the oldest members, so they are the founding fathers of
church He served his community for many years as a volunteer firefighter for
Woodland Fire Department and a charter member of the Herman Sanitary District.
He enjoyed fishing on the lake, hunting pheasants, throwing baseballs with him
grandchildren and giving them tractor rides, playing bags at the lodge, shooting dartball,
playing cards, watching sunsets with Darlene on the porch swing, and driving his 63
Thunderbird. But his greatest joy was just being with his family. One of his many
prides his yard. He spent hours manicuring his lawn, watering the flowers,
tilling the soil, pulling weeds, harvesting her garden, and of course washing and waxing
his lawn tractor. He loved his birds and had a lifelong obsession with his purple martins,
Marty and Martyrs.
Faith is the most important part of his life. His love for God, his love for his wife,
children, grandchildren, family and friends, and his love of life was unwavering. He
his faith lived and it was shown in all he did and all who knew him. One of his
greatest pleasure in life is anything related to his grandchildren. He did not miss them
school activities and loves watching their sports games, especially baseball. He is
the best Pa that anyone could ask for and literally never refused any of their requests
her, even allowing them to do her hair and makeup and dancing pompoms as a
cheerleader
