Trump is the first to jump into the race after losing to incumbent Joe Biden in 2020 and he is certainly feeling the pressure coming from his likely opponent. Although DeSantis hasn’t even announced his candidacy, the businessman-in-waiting is already throwing mud in his direction.

The New York business mogul turned politician reportedly called the Floridian governor names like: “Meatball Ron,” “Shutdown Ron,” and “Ron DeSanctimonious.”

Trump has been highly critical of DeSantis’ choice to temporarily put Florida on lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic, and has used that decision to target his political rival.

According to a Times report, Trump’s allies are planning to make the pandemic a central issue in the campaign going forward.

Trump spoke to CNN on his plane last month in which he said DeSantis was trying to “rewrite history” in how he governed during the pandemic.

DeSantis followed early pandemic restrictions as COVID-19 spread rapidly and tightly in the United States in March 2020, but he enacted stricter restrictions in Broward and Palm Beach counties, closing their beaches , which Trump quickly released. any outlet he talks to.

The former president also posted rumors on Truth Social where he accused DeSantis of partying with underage girls when he was working as a high school teacher.

He shared a photo posted by one of his followers of his potential opponent with three teenage girls around him with blurred faces.

The post read: “Ron DeSantis was having a ‘drink party’ with his students when he was a high school teacher. Drinking with underage girls and hugging them must have seemed a little gross and ephebophiliaesque.”

The Florida governor has been a rising star in the Republican party as a vocal opponent of the current President and Vice President. He recently made headlines after sending several Florida immigrants to VP Kamala Harris’ door as a public display of protest against the Biden administration’s handling of immigration.

In recent polls, DeSantis has about 53% of Republican support while Trump currently sits at 40%.
