Donald E. Whitlock, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2023, in LaGrange, Georgia, just days shy of his 86th birthday. Born April 21, 1937, in Lanett, Alabama, Donald was known for his kindness, friendliness, and thoughtfulness throughout his life.
A proud graduate of Auburn University, Donald devoted his early years to teaching and mentoring young minds as a high school coach and teacher. He later moved on to a successful career at West Point Pepperell, where he eventually retired. Donald’s strong work ethic and dedication to his profession is evident to all who know him.
Donald’s love for his family was the foundation of his life. She is survived by her son Jeff Whitlock (Gwen); daughter, Kim Whitlock Willis; stepson, Lynn Metler (Paul); daughter, Kim Williams; grandchildren, Kelly Dun (Drew), Chad Whitlock (Katelyn), and Brooke Duncan (Jerrod); step-grandchildren, Nick Metler and Lauren DeFoor (Josh); great-grandchildren, Channing, Eiland, Ellison, and Bailey; and step-great-grandchildren, Jax and Lila. Affectionately known as “Papa” to his grandchildren, Donald’s warm presence and unwavering support will be greatly missed by his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma and Bob Whitlock; his first wife, Mary Whitlock; his second wife, Linda Whitlock; and his brother Ron Whitlock.
In his spare time, Donald enjoyed hitting the golf course, where his friendly demeanor and friendliness were always on display. His love for sports was matched only by his love for his family. Donald’s kindness extended beyond his family, as he was known to help friends and neighbors in need.
Donald’s legacy of kindness, kindness, and thoughtfulness will live on in the many lives he touched. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who always put the needs of others before his own. As we mourn the loss of Donald E. Whitlock, we also celebrate the life of a man who made the world a better place through his unwavering kindness and love for his family.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 23, 2023 at 2:00 PM (EST) at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Dr. Paul Metler will officiate. Donald’s family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:00 PM (EST) until the time of service at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.
