2024 election: Sununu says Donald Trump is setting himself up to be a ‘four-time loser’

Again criticized by Gov. Chris Sununu (R-NH) his criticism that former President Donald Trump will be a drag on the GOP if he becomes the standard bearer in 2024.

Trump’s support among Republican primary voters appears to have solidified more in recent weeks amid apparent opposition to his impeachment, but Sununu thinks that’s a temporary bump and the GOP will soon wake up to the truth.

“[Trump] dropped that ticket, Sununu told NBC’s Meet the Press. I think the truth will really come through the main process. So I understand that people support him. They think a lot of DA stuff is political, which I think it is.

A frequent critic of Trump, Sununu is considering his own run in 2024. He added that the uproar over the onslaught of anti-Trump inquiries may not necessarily “translate into a vote” and noted that voters often do not make up their minds until close to election day.

Sununu further knocked Trump for serving as a liability for the GOP in recent elections.

Republicans want someone who can win on November 24. Donald Trump is a loser. He didn’t lose just once. He lost us our seats in the House in 2018, Sununu said. He lost all and 20. We should have 54 US senators today, and not because of his message. So, Donald Trump is positioning himself to be a four-time loser in 2024.

Along with his electability concerns, Sununu also criticized Trump for failing to keep various promises he made, such as the border wall.

[Trump] he said he would go to Washington and drain the swamp. He didn’t, Sununu added. He said he would build a wall and secure things. He didn’t do it. He said he would give us health care reform and be fiscally disciplined, not add $8 trillion to the debt. He did none of those things. And so we want fighters who can actually win.

The governor maintained that Trump’s challengers should not shy away from going after him, despite his penchant for unleashing a barrage of rhetorical carpet bombs on his opponents.

Sununu also addressed host Chuck Todd’s statement that 2024 hopefuls need to make a decision before the Fourth of July.
