Melania Trump Celebrates ‘Low-Key’ 53rd Birthday: Exclusive Source

Melania Trump is expected to celebrate her 53rd birthday on Wednesday with family at Mar-a-Lago, a source tells PEOPLE.

“Melania wants a low-key celebration with family and I believe that’s her plan for this year’s birthday,” the source said.

Although the day was “low” for the former first lady, it comes amid a challenging time for her and her husband, former President Donald Trump.

On Tuesday, a lawsuit by former adviser columnist E. Jean Carroll accusing the former president of rape and defamation went to court in New York City as jury selection began.

The case comes on the heels of other legal issues for Donald, who in March became the first former president in US history to answer to criminal charges when he appeared in a Manhattan courtroom to plead not guilty to 34 that felony count of falsifying business records in the first degree following an investigation into alleged hush payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels while she was a 2016 presidential candidate.

But for Wednesday, Donald is expected to celebrate with Melania if his schedule allows him to make it to Mar-a-Lago.

“If Donald is here, he’ll be with the family to celebrate his wife’s birthday. Despite what you hear, the Trumps are a close family,” the source added.

Another source tells PEOPLE: “Don’t be fooled by the former president’s speech and dominant influence on those around him. He respects and admires his wife.”

“He wants to make Melania happy,” the source said, adding: “They have a more than suitable partners arrangement.”

A spokesperson for Melania did not return PEOPLE’s request for comment about her birthday plans.

Since Mar-a-Lago is one of Melania’s favorite places, it’s no surprise that she plans to welcome another year with a family celebration.

“He’s comfortable and happy at Mar-a-Lago and lucky to have his family around him,” the source said.

Another source believes Melania may leave the country on vacation soon, and may look to “take Barron to Europe this summer.”

“Melania is in charge of Barron and his well-being and whatever is going on in his life, she plays the main role,” the source told PEOPLE.

Another source said Melania was well-liked by members of the Mar-a-Lago Club, saying, “She’s lovely and kind to everyone and not always as quiet as you think.”

“He has a lot of interest and is pursuing it,” the source added.

Her husband, meanwhile, has launched another run for the presidency and is now juggling the campaign and several other legal issues.

On Wednesday, she took to her social media platform Truth Social to call Carroll’s rape and defamation allegations against her a “scam.”
