Donald R. Smith died on May 14, 2023 at Norman Regional Hospital. She was born to Wm. Russell and Nettie Lee (Heard) Smith in Greenville, Texas, on September 19, 1942. Soon after, he moved to Noble, Oklahoma, with his family. At age 13, he worked at Smith Highway Construction. He graduated from Noble High School and attended Central State College. Don began his long career in Highway Construction Management as three generations of his family preceded him. He was employed by the Oklahoma State Highway Department, Nationwide Construction Company, and APAC (World Asphalt Company as a Division Manager. He had lived in Norman since 1991. Don married Helen Ruth High in 1961. She preceded him in death in 1965. the his great love for the mountains of Colorado from an early age, he enjoyed many trips with friends and family hunting, fishing, four-wheeling and snow-mobiling.In his youth, he traveled the rodeo circuit as a saddle bronc rider. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen, sister Susan Kalicki and nephew Brandon Kalicki.Survivors include his children: Donald Russell Jr. (LeAnn), Steven Grant (Christian) , Sally Ann (Sam), and Annette Lee (Andy); nephews Greg (Louise), and Jeff (Beth); seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and other family and friends.
